Here we go it's shed time

Punkin's going into shed, the first one with us. Blue eyes and all that. Humidity's up and everything is set with the humid hide so now it's a question of waiting to see how it goes. By reports, Punkin has never shed complete or unassisted so we don't expect much this first time with us but one can always hope.

Quick question about scars. Punkin has a couple from a cat attack as a baby snake. Do these cause any issues with shedding we need to be aware of?

Also one of Punkin's eyes has a slightly "dimpled" look (best I can describe it). It's not dulled over or anything more than the other side, just looks kind of different but Punkin seems to react to movement on that side the same as the other. Would this be from a tiny bit of retained eyecap or do they retain the entire eyecap not parts of it?

Sorry being OCD as always I guess but mostly just really excited that Punkin is growing!!!!

The scars won't have any effect on the shed but unfortanitly the shed will probably not clear them up . As for that "dimpled eye, it's really hard to say with out pictures but it sounds like a common thing that happends when a cage is too dry, alot of the times it will look like a small dent..the shed will prbably remove this unless it is from that cat or something else. Pictures would be a better way for us to tell though.

Yeah the dimple sounds like a little bit of dehydration, but with your humidity level raised you should see some improvement soon. Good luck with the shed! *fingers crossed*

Unfortunately i have no advice, only questions. This is the first shed that i made a humid hide to assist with shedding. And i put damp paper towels in there to get the humidity up, but shouldnt i be putting the nature rock in there to help him shed? or does he just go in there to soak up the humidity and shed outside? either way is fine with me as the hide i put in could easily fit him and the rock, just want to make sure i do it right as last time scotty had a peice of shed retained on the top of his head. Thanks in advance for any info/advice

We just get the humidity up around 70% (not hard at all this summer in Michigan LOL). We do add in a humid hide during sheds as well as a number of cage decorations that are slightly rough to rub against (the cage decor is there all the time tho).

Our other snake Baby sheds in her hide tho. Just wiggles out and leaves a shed "ball", complete but not real pretty LOL. Who cares as long as it's off.

Thanks for the feedback folks. I am thinking Punkin was in a situation before us where humidity was not great so maybe that's it. That would also explain the previous owners comments that Punkin has "never ever" shed complete or w/o soaking to get the retained shed off.

Wish I could post a pic. I'm really going to have to invest in a cam or borrow one.
