    Punkin ate 2 mice

Just wanted to let you know Punkin took her first multiple meal for us on Saturday night. We fed the usual 1 mouse and then decided to try to a 2nd to see if Punkin would respond (she's never in her life been offered more than one mouse a week).

It was kinda cute as Punkin was obviously hunting after the 1st mouse was down....peering upwards (she'd always been fed in a very small tub and had mice dangled above her) then climbed on her hide to peer down, then sort of moved about lurking around hides. My husband got the second mouse on the hemostats and was in the middle of saying "I wonder if she'd like another" when he got to about the words "I wonder....". Punkin just about flew out from the side of her hide and nailed that mouse like it was the best thing she'd ever seen LOL. The hilarious part was Mike's reaction, just sort of a blink and a wry comment..."well I guess that answers that question!"

What a high to see this lovely ball python responding so strongly to her prey!

Yeppers Daniel you were bang on and boy did Punkin want that second mouse! I swear if a snake could lick it's lips and grin that snake would have done it. We'll just continue on now with offering 1 or 2 mice per week to both snakes and let them set their own pace.

    Thanks again!

    Jo,

I can't remember...are you feeding live or p/k or f/t? I'm just trying to figure out how I'm going to do hemostats with live? LOL

As you know, I just want Kash to feed (which he did and didn't keep down, which lead to the discovery of parasites.....anyway!!!). So I'm feeding live right now. He's only had one feed, and I'll feed again when I get back. I may go ahead and buy two hoppers and see if he wants both.

I just drop the live animals into his enclosure, and figured they'd be too "squirmy" to use hemostats or tongs.

    Re: Punkin ate 2 mice

Oh my goodness I forgot you feed live Robin LOL. Yep we feed pre-killed. For now we buy feeder mice from the local pet store and feed them up for a few days before snake num-nums. Hopefully soon we will use our own feeder mice as we have a breeder male and three breeder females busy doing "snake-food making" activities (one has 4 pinkies but we got her already preggers).

Adam's your man (as well as others here) for advice on multiple live feeds. If he only takes one hopper (errr the snake NOT Adam LOL) you could always keep the other for the next week. We got a thing from the dollar store that once we melted a few holes in it makes a nifty kritter keeper type thing and was all of $2.00.

Best of luck with little Kashmire!

    Re: Punkin ate 2 mice

I have just transitioned my ball pythons to multiple live feedings. Not that different than feeding f/t or p/k. Just feed each mice like you would feed a single mouse. Put one in...it gets eatten...the snake begins to move around...put another in...
