what do you use to clean enclosures?

I have been using my chlorhexidine solution and paper towels to clean my bp and mouse enclosures but the paper towels are not proving to be economical. I was wondering what you all generally use (wash cloths, shammi, sponges, etc.).

Re: what do you use to clean enclosures?

I use Nolvasan/virosan and paper towels. I like the paper towels because they are disposable. Also, my wife gets nervous when I use the dish towels : )

Seriously, sponges, etc. are fantastic breeding grounds for micro-organisms (my wife is a microbiologist, which is why she's not into me using the dish towels). So using the same cleaning sponges, towels etc., without dissinfecting them thoroughly can result in smearing bacteria around your clean-looking enclosures; especially is you use the same sponge for multiple enclosures.

    Happy cleaning!

Sorry I use the same thing you do. Good ole paper towels and chlorhexidine. I thought about using some white towels and giving them a good bleaching in between but I just felt safer going with paper towels. Besides the husband is in the paper industry, so I got to keep him working (I even use paper bags to line the bottom of my cages )

Re: what do you use to clean enclosures?

I normally use Nolvasn-S and paper towels as well.

I'm currently trying out some cloth towels that are cheap enough for me to throw away after I use them.

The jury is still out, but it's sped up my cleaning time and believe it or not, looks to be cheaper than the cases of paper towels I was going through each week.

Re: what do you use to clean enclosures?

I use paper towels and virson (diluted properly) after a scrub (very very well rised) with dishsoap and water.

As for the giant container of paper towels in the basement (which will be moved back into the house soon), I keep the crested geckos on paper towels. I buy the "half sheet tearaway" style though.

daniel, walmart=paper towels (cheap ones) $1.50 3 rolls! lol i don't know if it can get cheaper than that. i've thought about doing washcloths and washing them and then not! with my wife and 3 girls there is enough laundry!!! plus i like throwing away each tubs mess seperately and not transfering anything.

Re: what do you use to clean enclosures?

Thanks everyone....I was just wondering. I guess I will stick with paper towels. I have just been using what ever brand is around the house, but I moved my snakes to my fiance's apt. and she did not like that I used her expensive paper towels. I guess I will have to go out and buy some cheap ones just for the critters.

That should read virosan, not virson.

So those shop towels work well? That was kinda the alternative I was considering.
