Hmmm computer people I need advice here

Just wondering what could be causing this.

My monitor is sort of dulling and brightening for some odd reason suddenly. I haven't changed anything as far as how it's plugged in or anything like that and am not noticing any sort of "browning out" of other things like lights, t.v., etc.

It does seem to happen more if the weather is iffy outside like this morning when it's threatening rain and very overcast. Just wierd as it's never done this before but it's driving my eyes nuts!

    Any ideas?

You could have a "dirty" power supply, be suffering voltage fluctuations in the house AC current, the monitor could be dying - could be a lot of things. You can pick up an APC UPS which will give you about 15 mins backup for around $45. Another useful feature of these is that they can monitor voltage fluctuations, spikes and other anomalies that would be occuring outside your PC setup. However if you're noticing no similar fluctuations it is most likely in the monitor itself. If you select a different desktop/monitor resolution/refresh rate do the symptoms persist?

frankykeno is probibly right, its the monitor or the monitors built in power supply.

a refresh rate problem would be consistant requardless of the time or weather.

a pc power supply would cuase reboot problems , ie your system would reboot or lock up for no reason randomly.

how old is the monior adn what brand is it. ive found that non comercial grade moniors wear start haveing issues after 7 years or so. and refurbs if it was not new start after 5.

Def not PC power supply - quite likely not video card.

Resolution and refresh rate combos can do strange things especially on certain CRTs.

Just yesterday we pulled a 9month old (non-refurb) Mitsubishi off the floor due to it behvaing very strangely in 1600x and 1024x (1280x ran flawlessly) in any refresh over 60 - and who wants to run that - ack.

Just things you can try to narrow down the problems and troubleshoot.

Hate to tell you this, but my 21" (that I loved) did that for a while, then one day it just went 'pop' and died. Didn't explode, just had a little noise from inside, and faded out for the last time. I still have it 'cause a guy from work says he can fix it pretty cheap, we just can't find time off together to deal with it. Good Luck with yours!!
