high humdity in cage???
well i had everything going good or so i thought. my temperature was right on hot and cold side and the humidity was just under 60%. so i decided to call it a night. 3 hrs later i woke up for some odd reason and went to check things out and the humidity had jumped up to 89% with my temperatue at 79 F and the tank was all steamed up. i scratched my head and decided to take the sustrate (astro turf) out and wipe everything down and i replaced the turf with a fresh piece because it was damp. Then set everything back up and now its 4:08 am and i have everything back undercontrol. i am wondering, i remember moving the water bowl and spilling some water ( maybe 2 or 3 tablespoons ). I am ussing UTH so maybe this was the cause of everything getting out of wack? i hope so. the room temperature did drop 7 or 8 F degrees as well in that 3 hr time period. I was trying not to use the infrared light just to see what temp my UTH would keep everything at. during the day with the UTH it will hold at about 83-84 F which is not hot enough during the day, but should be warm enough for the night. anythoughts. there is no snake in the tank yet if uu are wondering.

Re: high humdity in cage???
What kind of lid do you have? If it is a screen lid covered with something to retain humidity, I would simply remove the covering more to allow the humidity to escape.
If it is a solid lid, maybe you could get a screen lid (a secure one) and just put plexiglass over part of it to regulate humidity? I do this and it works like a charm.

Re: high humdity in cage???
Sorry to hear about all your trouble getting the right temps and humidity. This is definitely why it's good to have the setup running before you get your snake. You need to have your hot side at ~92 all day and nite. It's best to keep your temperatures constant.

Re: high humdity in cage???
ok thanks, but should i be worried about spilling water on my sustrate again? when i took the turf out it was damp in the areas were the water spilled and i am concerned that this was the cause of the jump in humity. sense 4am i have had everything going in the right direction and its now almost 12. so i have 8 hrs in with no problems.
