Re: Snake hates heat HELP!!!
Your bp does not 'hate' the heat unless it is in excess of 95 deg. It may just stay at one side of the enclosure when you are watching. You have no idea what the bp does when you are away. Keep your heating element running and make sure your warm side is 92-94 and your cool side is 82-84. Check with a good digital thermometer to make sure your temperatures are correct. If your tempertures are correct, there should be no problems. Are you using a thermostat witht the UTH? If not, I suggest getting one to maintain consistant temperatures. Do not let your ambient enclosure temperature to get below 75 deg. (I suggest around 82) If any lower than that and you risk your bp getting a respiratory infection.

Re: Snake hates heat HELP!!!
Welcome!
I have not had that issue with any of my bp's... is the UHT on the inside of the cage? You say that you are "setting" your UTH at a specific temp., are you sure it is that temp? How are you setting the UTH like that? In line thermostat? What type of UTH are you talking about exactly? What type of device are you using to check your temps?
I am wondering if it is hotter than you think?
I use a temp gun to check my temps. I have recently discovered that the digital temp/hygrometer that I have been using has been off by +/-8 degrees. It may be from age, the one has been used in my bp's tank for awhile now, and his humidity sits at 55-62% most of the time.. the humidity may have caused it to malfunction. And the others are off by +/-3 degrees, they are newer. One in fact is only like 4 months old. Thinking of getting a digi hygrometer for use by itself.
I have a boa that seems to not like heat all that much, his warm side is at 90 degrees (+/- 2) and his warm side is 80 (+/-2). I just keep the temps constant no matter what, he does spend most of his time on the cool side, and occassionally, usually after eating only uses the warm side. I dont worry about it too much.
I think if you are positive that temps are what they should be, both on the cool side and warm side, I would not worry about it all that much, it may be that your bp does go on the warm side at times you are not there to observe. But I am sure someone else will chime in and give thier ideas about it.. cause I am not sure what to suggest. Also, if we knew what type of UTH you are referring to and how you are setting it and such, it would be easier to help.

Exactly! It is either that or the temps are to hot and it is avoiding the area...

I use flexwatt for my heat I set it with a ranco thermostat at 90 deg.
and I read my heat with a raytek infrared heat gun.
He just wont go anywhere near the heat unless its off. Turn the heat on and hes gone in about 5 min.

Your cage should be 82-84 on the cool side and 92-94 on the hot. Your snake will move back and forth between the two temp zones as he/she sees fit. Don't worry about "where" the snake goes, just make sure you are set up with those temps.
Make sure he/she has a good choice of hides on both sides of the cage so that it doesn't not have to sacrifice proper temps for security.
If you are really worried, take your animal to a qualified and experienced reptile vet ... sometimes snakes that are sick will avoid heat and your snake might have a URI or some other type of illness.
