Grrrrrrrr....
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page3...r/moore/050412
The thing about this article that gets me is the authors comments about making those snakes into a purse, shoes and a belt, etc. I realize that she may not be a reptile fan, but to make those comments is rather uncalled for. Thinking about sending the author of that article an email telling her that those comments were rather aweful.

Re: Grrrrrrrr....
OK, the more I thought about it, the more irritated I got. So, I sent off this email to the writer. My hubby was not happy with her comments as well, had he wrote the letter, it would have come out pretty nasty.
Dear Miki,
I ran across your article about Mr. Moore of the Los Angeles Clippers. I am not a major sports fan, but I do somewhat follow stories like this. I would like to applaud your efforts with this article as far as showing his fans other things that interest him. However, I feel that your comments about making the snakes into purses, strappy sandals and belts was uncalled for. I am a hobby keeper of many reptiles, for me to see the comments you made, it did not give me a good feeling about you as a person, your image is much tainted in my eyes, and likely in the eyes of other fans who have this same interest. I feel this article could have been written up better, meaning, your comments about making these beautiful animals into accessories to go with your outfits could have been left out. It is understood that not alot of people are "into" reptiles, and most of the time, as it appears in your case, fear or dislike is because you truelly know nothing about these animals. Next time you must write an article that exposes you to reptiles, maybe you should decline or take the time to educate yourself before making comments that taint your persona.
Sincerely,
Mr and Mrs. Olson
Mansfield, Ohio
Ok, I feel a little better now... at least I voiced my opinoin. Wonder how many other emails she has gotten regarding her comments...

Re: Grrrrrrrr....
Read most of the article... I can see why you'd be upset by the ignorance of the author when it comes to reptiles. I think what was written, was written to try to boast the 'humor' of the author ... unfortunately in this case it was done so in an unattractive manner. Oh well; just another case of ignorant author commentary being interjected.

She wrote: "keeps three boa constrictors of assorted sizes and colors"
She only named 2 Boa Constrictors and 1 Python, funny how pythons arent boas....I'm confused.
Anyways, yes I agree, that was rude and unnecessary to write that. What if Moore himself read the article? How would he feel about those comments?

Well if someone wrote an article about me and my pets, I know I'd want to read it when it was published. It's not like he doesn't know it was written... so good point, I wonder what he thinks.

Re: Grrrrrrrr....
Ok, just got an email from this Miki person who wrote that article.
hello mr. and mrs. olson.
i think you really missed the tongue-in-cheek aspect of the piece. page 3 is all about irreverance, so those comments were made in fun. i will probably never own snakes, but as a longtime vegetarian, i would never consider eating them or wearing them. in fact, i don't even like animal skin or animal print garments. so, before you label me something that i'm not, read in between the lines. and if you still feel the same way about me--a person from cincinnati that you know nothing about--then that's ok. god still digs me and that's all that really matters.
cheers,
mik
First, here is the definition of irreverance from a websters dictionary- used in most schools. And it did come from a school, a school I use to work for.
irreverant; irreverance: not reverent. not showing any respect for religion or for things that deserve respect.
Now, thinking about her reply, I dont even know what the whole point would be to write an article like that to begin with. What was the point if it is all about "irreverance"? Whats the gain? In my opinion, she made herself look bad with those comments.
Anyone else read "page 3"? I briefly read through some of the other page 3 articles and could find no other articles that were "tounge-in-cheek". I guess she is either defending herself for writting such a crappy article and she knows I am right, or she meant for HER article to be tounge-in-cheek; she is also not the only writter for page 3, whichever the case, she should have crumbled up/deleted her article and started all over again to write something that is of credit to herps. Now I have a pretty good sense of humor, a bit warped, but I found her article to be truelly aweful and vile. Anyone else see humor in any of the other articles, am I missing something?
If you do a search on the net, using her name .. Miki Turner, you come up with more articles she wrote... seems to me that her article about Mr. Moore and his snakes was way out of line.
Here are links to other articles she wrote:

Re: Grrrrrrrr....
Their response shows their immaturity in my eyes. Incorrect/absent punctuation for the first part (that gets on my nerves). And 'vegetarians' also irritate me. I do NOT mean people who do it for their own health, I mean people who do it because they 'don't want to hurt the poor animals', and we meat eaters are such sinners for eating what I believe we were made to eat. (off my soapbox now.)
On the same line there.. I have nothing against reptile leathers. I believe they are beautiful. I wouldn't buy it for the simple fact that I'd rather have the live animal. I see nothing morally wrong with it.. just as with cow leather. It's a natural and renewable resource.
But.. on the other hand, when I am at my job holding the snake, I do NOT appreciate people coming up and saying they'd make Charlie (my favorite BCI) into boots.

NOT! It is called referencing her past articles to show that other things she wrote were not tounge-in-cheek as she says her article about Mr.Moore was. Proof she is covering her arse; seeing as though I cannot find any other articles written by her that are tounge-in-cheek. I cant help it that I tend to research a bit to see if thats her writting style. Besides, had to see after her comment that "page 3 is about irreverance", if I was missing the facts or was not in a particularly good mood to see humor in her article.

Haha... I kid, I kid.
Well it seems to me she felt backed into a corner, with tail tucked deep between the hind legs. I still think she was just trying to add humor that she thought would relate to the general population of those who are ignorant about exotic animals. She obviously tried too hard especially since she stated that "i would never consider eating them or wearing them. in fact, i don't even like animal skin or animal print garments." It's amazing the facades people put up in order to be liked or to try to be more appealing for one reason or another. People should learn to just be themselves. Oh well.
