    Question Custom built enclosure help!

Hey guys first time poster here.

I built a customer enclosure for my ball python, 6x4x2, after getting a second ball python and do more and more research I am going to split the tank in half creating 2 separate enclosures by simply adding a divider into the current enclosure. However I’m wondering about how I can use my existing heating elements.

When I started setting up the originally build enclosure I realized the seemingly MASSIVE amount of heating that was needed to keep temps in such a large space so I have a 150 DHP and a 160W Radiant heat panel. Now that I will be splitting the space to create two 6x2x2 I’m wondering how I could still use the 160W RHP to potentially help heat both enclosures? Could I install it running along the side of the two tanks and just cover it with a mesh cover to keep the snakes from touching the unit? I know RHP are ment to be installed on the top of the inside of the enclosure but is it possible to install it on the side to utilize the heat output in both living areas? I hope this makes sense as I can’t figure out how to post a picture from my phone.

    I appreciate the help!
thank you all and excited to be apart of this community!

    Re: Custom built enclosure help!

I think splitting the enclosure in two makes sense. I have a couple thoughts on your other questions.

First, I've never heard of putting an RHP on its side and probably would not recommend it. Secondly, make sure you have a hot side and cool side and that your thermostat and RHP work well for that space (RHP being the main consideration).

You probably want two RHP's - one for each side. Alternatively - I would think you could cut out a slot for the RHP in the divider. It would have to be pretty well cut so one BP doesn't get to the other side. However, that would mean you could use the one. You would have to be very careful with temps and make sure they are good on both sides. However, this way, one RHP, one thermostat, two snakes. I have never done it, but I imagine it could work. I'll let others chime in if I am off base.

Finally, make sure to quarantine BP two before putting him/her in the enclosure with the other BP.

    Any questions, just ask.

    Good luck!

Pics would really help. This thread is a little old, but it should still help you figure out how to post pics: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...-Post-Pictures.
