The 'FedEx v UPS' debate does seem to vary quite a bit based on location. Where I am, FedEx is -- in my opinion and experience -- the better and it isn't even close.

Part of this comes down to my personal preferences about drop-off and pickup locations; FedEx and UPS have somewhat different models regarding both Ship Centers/Customer Centers and independent service locations, and I just happen to prefer FedEx's model (even if UPS's model is more convenient on paper).

Part of this is the more relevant fact that UPS's rescheduling of delivery dates is very frequent for me, sometimes even after tracking says the package is on the truck for delivery. I don't recall ever having that (on truck, rescheduled anyway) happen with FedEx. But to be fair, the only problem I've ever had with UPS overnight (which are incoming; I don't ship out via UPS overnight) have to do with their Customer Centers' limited hours and me going there to pick up a hold package at a time of day when any reasonable business would be open but they're not.
