Ball Python tested positive for Nido but not showing any symptoms?

I called them the day I got the positive test…feel horrible for the other snakes. But the store should have known better about housing 4 snakes together.

Shops don't usually do a full disinfection after an animal sells and a new one takes its place, and don't necessarily disinfect hands between handling animals, so there are a few extra exposure routes in a shop vs direct from a breeder even if they don't cohab (you're right though, of course).

I'm the type who would put the store on blast simply because every snake it sells now is at risk for harboring nido and spreading it. Yes you are supposed to QT new snakes but the sad reality is most people don't.

Also OP not only are you not getting any new snakes soon, you need to avoid expos and exotic pet stores so you don't inadvertently spread it to someone else's animals. If you need supplies or frozen feeders, order then online and have them shipped.

You can also ask around and see if there are any researchers looking into Nido. I know a while back someone was collecting positive snakes but it was years ago and I forget who it was.

I did not realize that nido was so environmentally stable -- 8-10 days. Makes me even more uncomfortable with all the reptile handing at expos.

I personally would feel comfortable going out into the larger reptile world if I had yet to handle the infected snake that day -- shower and change of clothes since last handling -- but prudence definitely seems warranted.
