The US Island Ruled by Alien Snakes and Spiders

This is an interesting article about the ecological devastation caused by the introduction of the brown tree snake to the island of Guam: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/2...es-and-spiders.

Fascinating read- thank you! It's the same sad story over & over again though- the release (accidental or on purpose) of non-native species that totally messes up the local ecosystem, potentially beyond repair. As with Guam, the harm can take a while before it's obvious, & once finally confirmed, then it might be too late. We need to think about this in the U.S. too- whether it's giant constrictors in Florida, or the ubiquitous house cats running loose in every neighborhood.

True, but the brown tree snake's rule over the island of Guam will one day end. Nature has a way of balancing things out.

Not without a great deal of harm to other species meanwhile. And I wouldn't exactly give nature credit for poisoning the snakes with acetaminophen. Poisoning (of any species) is a cruel & nasty way for them to die.
