They share the same 40 gallon? That seems far too small to me.
A 40 gallon (In my opinion) Is the absolute minimum for a single adult ball python.
I'd suggest keeping the younger male in the 40 gallon and getting either a 75 gallon or a 120 gallon for the 2 year old female.
Or even better, Instead of using fish tanks find a good 4x2x2 PVC enclosure and get one for each of them.
...They're in a 40 breeder with a divider down the middle, a 2+ year old girl and a 4-5? month old boy...
I'd say that half of a 40 gal. is "enough" space for the younger snake, but not really for the larger one (the female). The 40 gal. size is adequate for an adult male, while an adult female is better off with a little more space than that, ultimately. Right now the 40 gal. would suit the female by herself. I'd suggest getting a second tank (or other enclosure) set-up for the male, A.S.A.P. Especially considering that this thread was started nearly a year ago!
