    I'd say that half of a 40 gal. is "enough" space for the younger snake, but not really for the larger one (the female). The 40 gal. size is adequate for an adult male, while an adult female is better off with a little more space than that, ultimately. Right now the 40 gal. would suit the female by herself. I'd suggest getting a second tank (or other enclosure) set-up for the male, A.S.A.P. Especially considering that this thread was started nearly a year ago!
