I think it has more to do with suddenly changing up the snake's diet. If you feed rats to a young retic or burm all the time and then switch over to piglets, guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens once the snake needs a larger meal than a jumbo rat, their digestive systems won't be used to the different type of food and you get a difference in the "output".
