I have a basking shelf in an 8'x30"'x30" enclosure that I used for a large female Burmese python. The shelf is kind of a pain because she's learned to use it for leverage when she doesn't want to come out of the enclosure. I bought the enclosure used and the shelf came pre-installed. At the time I didn't think anything about it.
My girl does use the shelf though, usually after she's made a mess she'll climb on it and glare at me like "I MADE A MESS. CLEAN IT UP!"
