feeding-rat pup or fuzzy?
Hey, my juvenile BP is about 150g.
Going by the 10-15% of body weight rule, that's 15%-22.5%. Should he continue eating large rat fuzzies (19g) or can he start on rat pups (24g)?
Those are the weights of the 2 I currently have thawing.

Re: feeding-rat pup or fuzzy?
I personally keep mine on fuzzies until 200g. I feed on a 5 day schedule for any of my hatchlings/holdbacks until 500g

Re: feeding-rat pup or fuzzy?
Okay, this is why I'm confused: I've heard so many people say they start on pups sooner than later but I've always heard/and done the up to 200g rule... So, there's just too many opinions and too much information out on the internet

There isn't just one "right answer"- it's about picking the prey that your snake will eat & which isn't too big for him/her. And mice OR rats OR something else*, all are nutritionally acceptable, as long as the prey fits the snake & isn't rejected. (*Some keepers prefer feeding ASFs, for example, but if you start there, you'll probably never get your snake to switch off of them, & they're more expensive, harder to find, & in some places, illegal to even have.) Whatever prey the breeder started your snake on is what I'd continue with for a while, because young snakes need to be eating & growing, not rejecting prey.

Right. I was wary about the size because I didn't want this guy to regurgitate.
We'll likely stick with the fuzzies.

Re: feeding-rat pup or fuzzy?
I say get rid of the rules, scales, formulas, and mathematical equations altogether and just feed your snake any appropriately sized prey item every week or so. The difference between fuzzys and pups is minimal and I’m almost certain your snake can easily eat either of those prey sizes. Since you have both you can always alternate between the two with no issues.

Re: feeding-rat pup or fuzzy?
As EL says, your reptile is capable of swallowing both of those prey items. A guideline is nice but it certainly isn’t the beginning and the end. These animals don’t eat according to a specified size in the wild, they grab and go! They’ve been doing that for ages too. Babies, juveniles, sub adults and adults alike.
