At 5 mos old as long as he is in great shape, 2 weeks won't hurt him or mess up his appetite. At first I read that as a medium rat every 7-8 days at 5 mos and I was thinking"oh my he must be so FAT."
After a 2 week break might be a perfect time to try and introduce him to rats with that extra hunger.
