    Re: The Woods Vivarium

    Getting closer...

In this update I will talk about the health status of the toads, some info on the ants, more info about the 225 gallon, and what I'm thinking moving forward.

This is the first time ever all of the toads tested negative for parasites. I believe they still probably have them but we have been knocking them down very significantly to be able to get negative results for all of them. They all look great and I'm hoping to keep them in great health for as long as possible.

I am a little bit unsure of what I'm going to do with the ants. I could release the two colonies that I have now and purchase a carpenter ant colony from a small business in Pennsylvania that sales colonies, or I could try and stick it out and wait for my queen ants to produce offspring. It might be many years though before I can use them as feeders for my animals and that's the one thing that I really would like to speed up but it doesn't seem like it's happening. I don't have very long to decide before it's too cold to let the ants go so I'm in a 7-Day stretch where I'll make my decision. What do you think? Even though I'm attached to my two queen ants do you think I should let them go so they can try and start their own colonies in the wild? Do you think that I should purchase a colony and try to work with a small business for cross promotion and have a carpenter ant colony ready to go for whenever the enclosure is up and running?

I have a massive update about the status of the 225 gallon. I am actually considering expanding the width by 2 in. Expanding the width by only 2 in makes the enclosure 25 gallons more which is a 250 gallon enclosure. It's not going to cost me an arm and a leg to do this but it will push back a little bit the time before I get the enclosure. Because I'm also getting a stand and a canopy built for this enclosure. I could easily save up the money and do this. I'm thinking about it strongly because I think it would be better for the inhabitants. Remember the toads are not going to be alone but I'm still not ready to announce who or what is joining them in this massive enclosure.

Some of the biggest supplies for some of the biggest needs for me to be able to film this storyline I am still working on getting. A great b-cam, the actual enclosure, the stand and canopy, a productive ant colony, another cinema lens for the b-cam. Some of these hurdles can easily be overcome, but we are still further away than I would like to be. I have considered using my Sony camera that I have now as the b grade camera and just getting some lenses for it. I'm not sure how nice it will look compared to my pocket 6K cinema camera. It might be a complete mismatch.

Either way I have some big things to think about before this storyline begins. I have been waiting years for the opportunity to create this type of enclosure and create such a high quality story. The amount of time, money, and energy I have poured into this project I would really like to show you all what I have been working on and I would like to enjoy watching this crazy ecosystem working together in harmony in my room. I can't wait for this project to get off the ground I'm starting to get a little impatient but fingers crossed everybody let's hope that I'm able to get all that I need before we can start the project and hopefully this upcoming year we have something to show for.

Are you excited to hear that my toads finally are in the best health that they've been in? What are your thoughts on the ant situation? Do you think that I should reveal one more secret about this enclosure in the next update?
