    Easy to clean substrate ?

My BP girl is very sensitive to her scent being in the cage—she won’t eat if her enclosure is not pristine. I am getting tired of doing deep cleans every week since spot cleaning isn’t enough for her. I have always used aspen shavings for substrate, but I think that stuff really absorbs smells and is a pain to clean out all the time and super messy. Any recommendations for substrate that won’t get smelly and is easy to clean? For now I have just put paper towels in there…I’m not sure if that’s okay but I needed to clean and didn’t want to buy new substrate til I looked into stuff more.

You will still have to clean regularly with any substrate, but the difference is that you can do spot cleaning most of the time and a deep cleaning every 1-2 months instead of a deep clean every time. If you want ease of cleaning and your humidity levels are up to par, then paper towels or unprinted newspaper are the easiest. Just make sure you are still taking the bedding out as soon as you notice it's soiled because no matter what the substrate it will stink if left for a long time and can lead to scale rot and other issues.

Thank you! the spot cleaning wasn’t cutting it for her, just wanted to make sure paper towels are okay because that way I can just completely replace them every week and it’s a lot easier than replacing aspen.
