    Exactly the above. Since you won't be feeding there's little likelihood that he will try to eat the towels. He can burrow in them as hides.

    If the latches for the tub lid don't hold it on very securely I would suggest getting some non-elastic nylon straps, like used for luggage or camping, to make sure your snake doesn't manage to push it up an escape.
