How is my husbandry compared to yours?

After tweaking a few minor things the last few days I think I finally have it down. I have a hot spot controlled by a thermostat at 90. I infrared the area frequently and it is consistently 86-90. I have my ambient temps controlled by a thermostat as well. The warm side is pretty consistent at 79-80 ambient. Towards the cooler side I have fluctuations from 77-79 ambient. The issue I was dealing with before was a little too high humidity. I had around 65-77% humidity. I since dropped that down to around 52-58% on the warm side. With fluctuations to 50 at the lowest. On the cooler side I’m looking at 60-65% with fluctuations as low as 58%. It definitely stays higher on the cooler side. I would like to know what you guys think of my husbandry! How do you keep your guys and gals? Thanks for all the help! I know I have been buggy! Lol

Re: How is my husbandry compared to yours?

The big three I pay attention to are:

    1. Ambient (80F) --- I know literature and info online suggests that ball pythons can sustain temps down to 75F, I have had bad experiences with older snakes going below 80F (my only RI I have dealt with).
    2. Hot Spot (90F) --- I think it is nice to have.
    3. Water Bowl --- Large/deep enough to comfortably soak in.

-You are running warm/cold sides. I prefer to avoid this method even though it works fine if the enclosure is large enough.
-Your hot spot is 86-90F. In the past I kept my hot spots at 85F and I would get a regurge every now and then. Ever since I bumped my hot spots to a stable 90F: I have not seen a regurge in years.
-I struggled with humidity for the longest time and I think I did more harm than good artificially raising the levels. I live in New England (not an arid climate) and a large water bowl at target ambient temp (80F) seems to work fine for me: I pay no attention to humidity for my ball pythons: they can soak if they like.

Re: How is my husbandry compared to yours?

I can bump the warm side to 80-81 and the cooler side doesn’t budge. It pretty much is 79-80 with a possible dip to 78. As for the hot spot I have I can’t do anything with. Unless I get a different thermostat. It turns off and on when it hits 90. For whatever reason my snake hangs on the cool side. With all temps monitored a few times a day. Maybe he goes to the warm hide when I’m asleep I’ve been told. But a few people on here have told me it’s normal and not to worry. I even sent a message to my breeder about him only staying on that cool side. Even after meals. He told me as long as them temps are what I say... which they are. Then the snake knows what to do.
