    How do I prevent that from happening in the future? My understanding of how electrical appliances work is embarrassingly close to "it's magic!"

    Fuses die an burn out. I order a six pack from Herpstat with every unit. Some will last years an then a spike will fry it. When I have two left I order another six pack.
