Hi guys,

Long time lurker here, first time poster. I’ve had my baby Beetlejuice (Beetle) for 8 years. He’s a rescue as was in pretty terrible conditions and had a terrible case of mites when he was younger (he still has deep scars to this day).

The entire time I’ve had him, he’s never been sick. I recently moved to Northern California, and his first shed here was in so many pieces. Now, he’s never shed all in 1 piece with me, it always breaks off at the scars on his spine. But I raised his humidity to 80% for 3-4 days to improve his shed because 70% last time still resulted in a poor shed.

This Shed was better, and it’s been a week since, but I just noticed this scale on his side doesn’t look right. Is this scale rot for the extra humidity? It’s only the 1 scale. It’s flaky and has the red spot at the base. The blackish speckles are freckles from his pattern. But no pinkness. He didn’t get defensive when I touched it. He just ate but he eats F/T so it’s not an injury. Do you think he just got it caught on something, maybe the log hide in his enclosure? Should I be worried or wait until next shed? Any advice?

oh and he has a heat mat kept 88-90°, ambient temp is 80° with a CHE. He’s on paper towels but has cocofiber mixed with sphagnum moss is his hides (1 on cool side, 1 on warm side).

thanks!
jess
