It got commented on and brushed over in another thread I have, but I want to make sure this setup is ok. I have a 20 gallon long tank. At the time I ordered two UTH's for it not paying attention to the size of them. When I put them on they cover about 75% or more of the bottoms of the tank. They are both thermostat controlled, the hot side (measured inside glass floor) is at 88 degrees and the cool side is at 78 degrees. The room the snake is in stays at 70 degrees. Floor temps in the tank everywhere measure at 78 degrees or higher. If I shoot the branches, water bowl, etc., they stay around 72 or so. My breeder and someone else on here stated that since the entire surface of the tank is at least 77 degrees I do not need additional heat to bring the actual ambient temps up. I know stress in a new tank is an issue, the first week he was home he hung out behind the hide on the cool side under some fake plants, the second week he spent most of the time behind the hide in the warm side. Last week after feeding he went into the hot side hide and spends most of the days in that hide now. He comes out each evening to patrol around but majority of the time he is in the hot side hide.
I had initiall planned to get a small UTH but had been told with the entire glass floor being acceptable temps that the ambient air temps aren't an issue since they are above 70. Once he gets some more size to him we plan on going to a PVC enclosure, this is just the set up for the first year. We brought him home Nov. 10th and he ate the following Tuesday and just had his 3rd feeding, eating well, so I assume he is happy. They tank also has foam insulation on two sides and back, and plexi glass covering most if the top. So far the humidity has stayed around 60% the last three weeks.
