Solana - Our Scaleless Sunglow Motley Corn

have you seen the dave palumbo video(muscle serpents) on his scaleless python, he puts bag balm moisturiser on it to aid shedding, quite interesting to watch

I haven't seen that. I've heard the same for the soft backed beardies. When I spoke with Don Soderberg at South Mountain Reptiles, before getting Solana, I asked about that. He said that he's heard that in the BP's and Beardies, etc. However, the corns seem to do fine with normal corn snake conditions. I probably am a little more focused on humidity with Solana than with Figment, but they both have great sheds. That also just means 50% versus 45% humidity in shed. They are not boids or pythons. The only time I had an issue with Solana was feeding in shed. She will eat anytime, where as my Shayna (BP) and Yafe (CP) will refuse food. The boas, well, I have to keep on eye on them . They will eat in shed too. The time I fed her in shed (I hadn't realized she was getting ready to shed and fed 2 days prior), she ended up having a really bad shed and it took a few sheds to clear up. She was growing so fast that was a 2 month period, or something like that.

I will say when they have a bad shed, it takes a few sheds to totally get back to normal. Where as the few times Figment has had any issues, a quick soak and he's done.

I am also not sure how the Scaleless trait presents in BP's. However, in corns, they have belly scales and scales around their mouth, eyes, and nose, for locomotion and protection, respectively.

I think there is a reason the scaleless corns and rat snakes have caught on and seem to be thriving and you do not see too many scaleless BP's. I would also only feed F/T to a scaleless animal. No armor. No doubt you can get 99% of BP's to eat F/T, but what if you get one that doesn't' want it? Corns eat anything!

Having said that, a big, chunky, SOFT, BP would be cool. However, not looking for a high maintenance animal! Not that I am looking for anymore anyway.

I did my research and settled on a scaleless corn for a reason. Price was reasonable (compared to a scaleless BP), low maintenance, great demeanor/attitude, no feeding issues, etc.

Plus, OMG, aside from being super soft, Solana is gorgeous! She blows peoples' minds with her beauty and look and feel. She's really a stunner. Rich, if you ever come over to the US, you have to visit!
