animal plastics led lighting
hey everyone! i’ve been looking into purchasing an animal plastics enclosure and i’m thinking i’m gonna get the t10. i was going to add the led light option (one color for 45$) but then after doing some research, i realized i could get remote controlled color changing lights on amazon for about 25$. i’m just worried that it will be difficult to install, won’t have as much quality or won’t look as professional. has anyone installed there own led lights in an animal plastics cage? if so were they difficult to install, did they look professional and did they last? Thanks

I have had waterproof LEDs from amazon in my T8s for over 3 yrs now with no issues. Super easy to install and clearly marked where to cut to length with scissors. Just have AP cut a groove for them ($5-10) and instal your lights before assembling the top of the enclosure. I think there are pics of mine on my profile from when I set them up a few years ago. 3528 LEDs will fit the 8mm groove AP cuts for their lights. They fit very snuggly, I didn’t use any additional adhesive to keep them in the groove aside from the adhesive on the back of the strips in the event that I should need to remove/replace them. In my other enclosures without recessed grooves for the strips I secured them using the Lexel sealant that comes with AP enclosures.

okay awesome. did you have to ask them to drill a hole in the back too? and when you ask them to cut the groove do you have to be specific about where it is or do they just do it along the top. Also if i put in that note they just charge me for it later?

You can have them router the opening or do it yourself. Drill the hole for the cord yourself, just as you will for the thermostat.

The opening in the top of the enclosure is part of the cut AP makes for the led strip. No additional holes necessary

The OP wants to add his own LED, so router it is. AP will router for all three colors they sell. But that's custom so it adds time to the quicker ship. Well, that's what Ali told me when I placed my order. It took longer to set up my router then to make the cut.

That’s assuming OP has a router and the willingness to carve into a $200 brand new enclosure. The pics I provided are of my own LEDs I purchased on amazon, and installed in the CNC routered channel that AP will cut for led strips.
I have no doubt that it’s an easy customization to do oneself.
Additionally, OP made this post in reference to a T10 which is not a quick ship item to begin with. So customized or not, a T10 will take the standard 10-12week lead time
