Newbie just curious

Ive just purchased my first ball python a couple days ago off of Craigslist and wasn't really told anything about it. I think it's just a beautiful normal female but I'm just a newbie. I was curious what y'all thought.

I'm not an expert, but she looks like a very pretty female normal Welcome to the forum!

It does look like she has some stuck shed on the side of her head and neck in the second pic though, which means the humidity in her enclosure is too low. You may want to give her a soak in water shallow water (so she doesn't have to swim to keep her head above the water) that is around 85F to help her get that off.

Make sure the humidity is at least 55-65% in her enclosure, you can mist it with a spray bottle, and use substrate like cypress mulch or coconut fiber to help increase the humidity.

Thank you so much. I got some Cypress mulch I was going to change it fist thing in the morning. The subraste they had for her is super dry and dusty. They also had a wood hand made hide and some natural clay rocks with sharpish edges. (Already replaced hide and took rocks out) I've noticed a couple spots that look like she could've cut herself and heald up.

Glad to hear that you took over her care and that you're going to make things better for her! It makes sense that she'd have stuck shed if they kept her on the wrong kind of substrate. Did she also only have one hide before? Snakes need one on each side of the enclosure, one on the cool end and one on the warm end, so they can thermoregulate properly and feel secure.

It's possible those cuts came from the sharp rock decor and it's definitely a good thing you removed them. I also wonder if they might have been from rodent bites if she was fed live. Do you know what she was eating with her previous owner?

She was fed f/t. She only had the one hide right in the center of the cage. It look like a homemade hide she could've got cut on too. I plan on getting a second hide when I get the substrate tongs and feed. tomorrow. She has a nice large water bowl, day and night heat lamp and I've got a under the tank heat pad to put on tomorrow. I think I've got everything.

How long after I change her substrate and everything should I wait to try and feed her?

I’d wait 7 to 10 days as mentioned above ..

Presumably the lamp and heat mat will be regulated by thermostats?
