I also use the little stand-alone ones in the top picture. Pretty reliable, no cords to get tangled in, and can take a clobbering if your snake likes to knock them over. Also can stand up to a bit of water, as I found out during an accidental spill. The bottom sensor openings of the device got a bit waterlogged and it was reading 99% humidity for a bit, but after giving it a little help to dry out using the blowdryer on cool/unheated air setting, it went right back to normal functioning. (I put another Acurite next to it and compared their readings for consistency, just to make sure.) Also, I like the 24-hr min-max data it gives in addition to the current temperature and humidity readings.
