PAM Alternative

Just curious if anyone has used this as an alternative. It has the same primary active ingredient, in the same concentration, with the same dispersion medium. Essentially, it is nearly an identical product, but at a large cost savings. Has anyone tried this and experienced any adverse effects?

I'm only responding with second-hand info, as I've not had to use either PAM or RID, but I've seen a number of posts here from those who have used RID
successfully instead of PAM for snakes with mites. I don't recall any real difference in the way this was used, & I assume you know specifically how PAM is
used? That's the only caution: since RID is not labeled for the same purpose, BE SURE you are following the instructions as given on PAM for dealing with
snake mites...otherwise, you can harm your snake. Or worse...

One advantage to using RID is that it's readily available too...the sooner you get rid (no pun intended) of mites, the better off your snake is, & usually
everyone has to order & wait for PAM to arrive.

Hopefully a few members who actually HAVE used RID will join in with some reassurance before too long. What you can safely do in the meantime is give
your snake a little soak in luke-warm water with a drop or two of mild liquid soap (like Ivory or Dawn)...not deep, only enough to barely cover his body
so he's not having to swim. Stay with him for about 20 minutes, make sure he doesn't actually drink the water. The tiny amount of soap will break the
surface tension & effectively drown most mites on him...but some may escape that are on his head. Obviously he has to breathe so you cannot soak his
head...but the more mites you get rid of sooner, the better. Keeping him on white paper towels during treatment with minimal clutter & no hides made
of wood or other natural materials (that mites hide & lay eggs in) is best too. Plastic hides are fine...no crevices for mites to escape.

I guess I should have specified. I don't actually have a mite outbreak at the present moment, I just wanted to keep a can on hand, just in case. We also have a show coming up soon that we may or may not end up with an additional member(s) being added to the family, so we may end up using it as preventative anyway. To me, $10 for a 'generic' rather than $20 for the 'brand' name makes sense. Definitely plan to follow the same protocol that would be done with PAM.

Glad you don't actually have mites now or yet. Good idea to keep it on hand. In responding, I made no assumptions, & that's better anyway, as others may read
& heed the advice. Every so often someone still thinks we're talking about Pam, the cooking spray, too...

I use it when I do shows, I spray my displays a few days prior and my table cloth as well.

Obviously this is a preventive method that has work well so far.
