I had this happen. I held a warm washcloth around the tip of his tail for a bit and gently rubbed it off. Looked like this after---
I put some ointment on it and it's healing well now. I felt so so bad but we have to realize that mistakes happen, and it's good to take care of now that you know what it might be!
