I had my newly shed Emori rat out this morning. He managed to find a way to wedge himself between the supports of the extensions underneath the antique table I work at. Had snakes for years at this table, and no one else thought to wedge themselves in there....
Took the top off to eventually get him out, and he seemed as if he'd rather I hadn't. My earlier attempts at installing climbing opportunities in his tub hadn't worked out well, so the tub has been rather bare. Fixed that this morning, and he now has a little jungle gym in there (very secure, too).
Anyway, all that sawing and screwing boards to the tub make me want to make an outdoor enclosure. We have the tools, and a few 2X4's to get started, as well as a roll of 48" aluminum screening. I am only envisioning a sit outside with the animal on nice days and enjoy some coffee and read a book for a bit, sort of arrangement - not any type of unattended 24/7 home. It would be nice to let the snake climb around as he wants, w/o constantly worrying about where he is going. They do like their outside time in the yard.
I've put up other "stick built" structures before - more elaborate than this one would need to be. I'm thinking 8X8, or maybe 8X12. This IS going to happen! I'll keep you guys updated, and may even learn to learn how to use a digital camera, and post some pics (...maybe).
