    What are your tempatures? Seeing as you're saying you're "concerned that the heat mat isn't keeping him warm enough.", I would hope that you're not just guessing the temps or using your hand to measure them? You need a digital thermometer to check the ambient temps, a tempature gun to check the surface temps, and ALL heat sources have to be regulated by a thermostat.

    For snakes ceramic heat emitters are supposed to usually stay on top of the tank screen inside a fixture, where the snake can't reach it. It works the same as a heat lamp, but doesn't output light.

    Make sure you know your exact tempatures, and everything is regulated by a thermostat!
