That truly is your best bet.
I'm sorry that you have to go for a 4th time. And I think its great that your baby is doing so well through it all and even still eating. That is very encouraging. But its time to knock this out once and for all.
Its not necessarily the fanciest or most expensive vets that are the best. But you really do need one that knows and understands reptiles, esp. snakes. Treatments and meds work a bit differently in a cold blooded animals.
Please keep us up to date and I wish you and your baby best of luck getting rid of this problem!

I feel bad for your situation...sometimes vets guess correctly without doing a culture, but you weren't that lucky, & it stinks to have to start over.
Keep in mind there is nothing wrong with asking questions of a vet (or any other medical professional) as to their experience, certifications & time in practice
BEFORE you make an appt'mt. I have to guess that the vet you've been seeing hasn't been in practice long.

Most abx are given for 30 days, injected every 3rd day. The prescribed antibiotics should be listed on the paperwork or receipts you brought home from the vet.
Did you have to keep either antibiotic in the freezer? Fortaz has to be kept frozen until used.
Also bear in mind that a viral RI won't respond to antibiotics; all that the antibiotic will do is prevent an opportunistic bacterial infection from taking over. That's actually how I ended up with pneumonia last month - I had a head cold, then picked up norovirus from a coworker who insisted on working to meet a deadline, and while my body was dealing with those simultaneously pneumonia hit me.

Re: A frustrating Bally Python URI situation
If you go to a new vet, the new vet should be able to request complete veterinary records from your old vet. That way the new vet has actual treatment records. Good luck with your BP!

Just make sure you suggest it way ahead of time, not when you get there for the appt'mt with the new vet. Some offices are great about this stuff, others not so much.
