New rescue!!!! need advice please

Nice work. I went through a similar situation like this with a BP I rescued from a pet store about 2 years ago. He hadn't fed for 1 year and 4 months when I picked him up. This poor guy was a bag of snake bones that was barely alive. Someone earlier in the thread had suggested Bene-Bac. I have attached a link here. You can dust the rodents in it before feeding it will help promote healthy digestion. Also, I would recommend picking up some Carnivore Care. You can get the powder and mix it with water and inject it into rodents before feeding. They also sell a liquid version but the powder is more efficient. One thing to keep in mind is the health of your dear friend's skin. I don't know exactly what state yours seemed to be in, but one thing that caused complications with my rescue was the weakness of his skin due to malnourishment. His skin was so weak and baggy that it was prone to tearing on even the softest of objects. After conversations with the vet and some deep research, I found some cases where snakes can develop scurvy or symptoms like scurvy due to lack of appropriate nutrients. Carnivore care will help restore that but it will likely take up to a year or longer for a full recovery. Depending on how starved this specimen was you might be in for a long ride their metabolism is quite slow.

When I picked up my last rescue, she was boney snd thin, and I offered her a rat the very first day and scarfed it right down!

I only wait to feed new snakes if they were shipped in a box overnight in stressful conditions. If I am able to pick them up myself and transport them in a big tub in my car for an hour or less, then I just feed right away as needed.

Great job! And thanks for sharing the links...I've used Bene-Bac before but haven't tried 'Carnivore Care' (I've used Gerbers chicken baby food w/ supplements,
it works great too).

By the ingredients shown on package, it looks like Carnivore Care is an excellent product for use with snakes, as it contains eggs, chicken, fish oil & many supplements
including vitamin C, which was suggested in a similar thread recently. I wouldn't hesitate to use this stuff in the future if needed. Incidentally, Gerber's chicken is the
ONLY baby food I've found so far with fairly appropriate ingredients for a snake...other brands I've seen (such as Beechnut) contain a lot of sugar/HFC. Just from
the label, I suspect Carnivore Care is superior & I'll probably order & keep some on hand, just in case. Thanks!
