    Best substrate?

What is the best substrate for humidity for ball python?. I am currently using eco earth but when it drys up k get about 40-48% humidity and i got to mist 1-2 times a day to bring it up and kts dry by 6 hours. I dont want to make it to damp. I want something that doesent mold isnt hazzardous to them even if swallowed. And something that holds humidity very well. Thanks in advance.

I'm dropping this in as I am interested as well. I've been looking at Repti-Chip - it's coconut based.

Orchid bark ( think you call it ReptiBark is fabulous for keeping the humidity as high or low as you need it .

Looks great and makes your snakes colours stand out unless it's a Black Blood

Or on light coloured substrate ..

I use a mixture of Forest floor and Eco earth. Never have problems with humidity and there is no dust like when using aspen.

Aspen is ghastly stuff imho .

It's cheap but has so many negatives

Yes I started with Aspen and hated it right away. The dust was everywhere all over the viv walls and never held humidity. I use the forest floor and eco mixture for my water dragon which has always held humidity great. Tried it with my BP's with just a little bit of eco and have a constant 60-70% humidity with rarely needing to mist.

Yep .. it also looks unnatural , it makes your snakes look pale and insipid unless they're very dark colour .. it also gets all over the house and carpets ..

I use a blend of eco earth and repti-bark. I've used it for years and don't see myself changing unless something new comes along.
It works well for humidity control and odor control, it spot cleans easily and looks naturalistic.
