    Some Questions

Hello! I'm posting a thread about my normal BP Dean. I had some questions. First of all he is in a 10 gallon tank (which he has almost outgrown by this point) and has a heat lamp and a UTH. Both are regulated of course, the lamp has a dimmer and the UTH has a thermostat. My main concern is that I have him on paper towels. His humidity is reading 50-60% and the paper towels are pretty dry to the touch (not soaked with water) so is it okay to continue this? I would think it is if proper humidity is being provided but I'm starting to doubt myself. Now that I post this I realize that it's only the one question, sorry

I mean unless you’re debating to switch substrate or enclosure– Coconut husk is what I used, I had a tall tank and added a fogger to keep humidity up, but it would run out of water at least once a day and eventually I just switched a rack I made when I started to add, they been in there happy and healthy ever sense...upper 60s most the time if not 70

Do you mist? If so, how big is the water bowl? Or maybe get one with a more open surface area, move it under your heat lamp so it can evaporate and boost your humidity… 50%-60% is not bad for BPs if they are not in shed but I’m sure you are aware of most of this (especially the "cover part of the top of the enclosure..."), but just my 2 cent

Paper towels are fine as a substrate, but when he is nearing a shed, it would help to raise the humidity & you don't want him sitting on damp paper towels-
so the best way to do that would be to add a "humid hide"- use a plastic food container big enough for the snake with quite a bit of damp sphagnum moss-
carefully cut a doorway into the container & he'll very likely be happy to use it...my snakes love sphagnum moss, & you can keep it in the cage all the time
    also to help raise humidity.

    Re: Some Questions

Dean just had a full shed (I actually have it hanging next to his tank) and it is almost TOO easy to get the humidity to shedding levels (70% ish). Mostly I just wanted some reassurance that I was not doing something wrong. I probably over think things sometimes I was using cocohusk but it was getting annoying
