I just adopted one about a month ago. She was in rough shape do to neglect as well but was at least well fed. Her caps were completely stuck for who knows how long. After keeping the humidity up for a couple weeks she shed and the caps and everything came off in a million pieces. Hers kinda looks like that now too. I'm wondering if it's just some leftover from being in such rough shape and dried out before. The people I got it from left the screen top uncovered and there wasn't even any water in the dish. I live in the high desert so we have very little humidity here. I'm thinking I'm just gonna have to keep watching the humidity and wait another round and all should be ok. It seems to me like we are in the same boat. I'd say just keep the humidity up and wait. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination so hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in. Kudos for taking her in and taking the initiative to properly care for her! Mine seems to be doing extremely well after a month but she wasn't malnourished as far as I can tell. In my experience rescues make for amazing pets though so she'll be worth it. Mine acts like a totally different snake now that she's getting back to good health and her tank is dialed in.
