so my Pied girl Nessarose had a clutch of 7 eggs and they hatched out like a week ago. as the babies began to pip and emerge from the eggs, i noticed that all the visual Pieds and Pied combos (save for 1) have her eye stripe and crown that leads to a dorsal stripe or attempted dorsal stripe down the neck. can this be genetic? i'm a fan of this look and i picked out Nessarose for this pattern - the eye stripe crown and long dorsal stripe. they also have mom's blushed headstamp!
(dad is a Black Pastel het Pied)
this was #1 outta the egg. i drew the pattern i'm talking about in yellow and the eyes in red.
see what i mean? u can't see it, b/c of glare, but she also has the blushed headstamp.
anyways here's the whole clutch from the other day. they made a big mess and shed out over the weekend.
#1 outta the egg
and here's Nessarose, the mom. she's 200-something grams in this pix. see her blushed head stamp, eye stripe crown and long dorsal stripe? i always referred to her pattern as a cape b/c it covers like a third of her body and it looks like shes covered in a cape to me.
here she was in the grass last summer. she's like 1600grams here.
and here she is under some crappy lighting. this was the day after she laid her eggs. she's flat and weighed less than 1400grams but she's already approaching 2000grams today.
