i have 2 boas and I keep an 88 hot spot ambient side is mid 80s I keep a cool side temp of 76-77. My snakes often prefer the cool side with a warm up when needed. It’s been working well for me and really allowed them to full thermo regulate.
You need to het 2 hides in there. Preferably identical so the snake doesn’t choose
1.0 - Cinnamon Banana Ball Python (Thunder)
1.0 - Yellow Belly High White Pied Ball Python (Pretty Fly For A White Guy)
0.1 - Cinnamon GHI Ball Python (Leslie Snipes) 1.0 - Dumerils Boa (Sushi)
0.1 - Caye Caulker Boa (Lady Liberty) 0.0.? - Mandarin Rat Snake (Bumble) 1.0 - Mexican Black King (Rico Suave)
1.0 - Black Tail Cribo (Goldar) 0.1 - Jaguar Carpet Python (Cookie)
1.0 - Vietnamese Blue Beauty (Elsa)
1.0 - Green Tree Python (Banner)
0.2 - Yellow/Quince Monitors (Blanche & Dorothy)
I took his hide out cause it was really big and he hasn’t went into it once and I needed it for a new arrival and it was the only one that I had that was big enough for her to go in now I’m afraid to put it back in with him and it’s 80 degrees 90 on hot side

I think he's in the water because he's too HOT??? 90* is too warm for boas, both "hot side" & ambient (80*) need to be several degrees lower.
Cannot tell if any mites from a still photo...mites move, they're tiny specks the size of the head of a pin, in black/brown/reddish color. I don't see any in photo, but that's
not a guarantee...good sign that none came off when wiped w/ damp cloth though.
It's stressful to take away their hides (& you wonder why he wouldn't eat?)...you should have just made a temporary hide for the newcomer from a cardboard box
or from a new cat-litter-box, or similar item. Many things can work.
