I seen someone do the opposite but that was to minimize the use of reptile prime, and maximize it's life span like stated above the paper soaked up most the waste and the he spot clean if any got thro to the substrate it kept his humidity right but since you are going for the natural look probably not for you, congratulations on your new enclosure I am sure you and your lovely noodle well be pleased best wishes always..
