i was at the mall yesterday finishing up some xmas shopping when i stopped to check out a stand selling hermit crabs and some small lizards. the salesman came up to me and started trying to sell me stuff. well i wasn't interested, but we did start talking about herps. i told him i just got my first bp. then he tried to sell me vitamins for it. (anyone feed vitamins to their bp?) i asked him what he had at home for herps...he said three rtb's, a few tarantulas, and some lizards. Then he told me he used to have a diamondback rattlesnake (which are ilegal here), but he had to shot it with his pistol cause it got out and his child was watching tv and was unaware that the snake was out. He said he was in the marines and that was how he got all this stuff. it upsetting when someone thinks they can handle a hot, but then realizes they can't and has to kill it.

He also told me he expected his rtb's to only grow to about 3-4 feet??

    Very sad.

Sounds like the guy did not really know his stuff. And that he was giving the wrong info because he himself truelly did not know. Boas (rtb) do get bigger than that. And yes, it is a shame he obviously was not responsible enough to handle a "hot", gives good herpers a bad rep- IMO.

What a complete dolt. People like him give snakes and guns a bad name. Snakes and guns are both awesome things. Dolts aren't.

I have to agree Ginevive- snakes (all herps) and guns are both awesome. But yeah- dolts are not!

I wholeheartedly agree. What an idiot... he shot it in his house?! I think he's more dangerous than the hot.

He shot a gun off around his kid.......what a way to protect your kid! If you tke care hots you should know how to handle them also so he could of picked the snake up and put it back in its cage it prolly was his fault it got out in the first place! No vitamins for snakes as far as I know. I think the guy was just a nut job!
