I work at a pet store a few times a week. So the owner got a BP in, and it turns out he has mites.
On one hand, I know I cannot just say "I'm not coming in since your snake has mites." I need the money and have a small "tab" that I need to work off. But I am terrified of bringing some home to my snakes. She is using preventamite now and treating his cage, has been for the past week. But I am still nervous. I guess the best I can do, is to stay away from his tank.
They have a BCI, but she is on the other end of the store.
I really really do NOT want mites in my home. I dealt with ticks before, and that was hellacious enough.

    Helix vs Herpstat

A long time ago, I used to help out at a store and was paranoid about bringing parasites home. I would keep an extra set of clothing and shoes at the store and change there. I'd also treat my "store" clothing with black night roach spray before and after work. I was probably a little overly cautious. By pre-treating with Provent-a-mite and proper hand washing you really should be fine.

Just some suggestions, change clothes as Adam said although at the store there is no guarantee that they won't transfer to the next set of clothing. Maybe changing as soon as you get home and putting the clothes immediately into the wash or a plastic bag. I've luckily only had a mite issue once and it was bad enough, my wife found on the net somewhere that using head and shoulders shampoo on your whole body worked for keeping them off your body and transferring them from yourself. We tried it and where amazed at how well it worked! Of course we still treated our animals but this really help cut down. So now we usually keep some around and use it once in a while just as a measure, maybe you could try that if your worried about transferring mites you may pick up at the store. It may be that any medicated shampoo would work but the H&S really worked wonders for us with our problem.

    lol

I am just going to wear a big, heavy hoody sweatshirt, and change out of it before getting into the car to go home. I am mainly working in the fish department anyway, and will stay away from the snake's cage. But it is just a shame, because he is such a cute little BP. He needs to settle in anyway though.
