Graphic Novel Review - An Unlikely Refugee: The Story About A Python Named George

ok when i heard about this museum exhibit and i immediately wanted to go! but it's far across the country and i can't go right now. then i learned that there is an accompanying book and i bought that immediately!

the graphic novel arrived yesterday. it story is written by Morrow Dowdle and illustrated by Max Miller Dowdle. (full disclosure: my family is SE Asian refugees and imma herper, so this story struck a special chord.) An Unlikely Refugee: The Story About A Python Named George is written in a POV from George, the python's perspective. we follow its journey from egg through the landscapes of Vietnam, war and then the United States. alot of it is written in pretty prose and accompanied by fantastic graphics that sometimes weave in states of dream and the spiritual. i think the book does a really good job of telling a story of a wild animal moving into captivity and the assault of war without being heavy handed. reading the epilogues, i didn't realize how much research the author and her partner did. it seemed like a ton and all contributed to telling a nice story arch while respecting the python, culture and people. i would recommend this graphic novel to all herpers.

    anyways let's take a look:

    so i gotta new book!

nice liner pages and it's autographed!

    great art and imagery throughout

thefirst pages, beautiful poetry and art of birthing/hatching

Ha ha this is a crazy coincidence because this notification came up just as I was scrolling Instagram and saw your Instagram post about this same graphic novel because I follow #burmesepython. Small world.
