The 'theory' of fasting is that by not eating a minimum of 12 hours - it supposedly gives your body / organs / cells time to repair / renew / regenerate/ rejuvenate.
A good example is all those binge drinkers who go crazy Friday , Sat and even Sunday evenings then drink nothing for 4 or 5 days and the liver just repairs itself in time for the weekend..
If they just kept drinking day after day they'd be dead or at best very poorly ...
