yea same girth or just a little bigger than the girthies part of the body

This might be true with some snakes, but with ball pythons, you can actually maintain them very well feeding meals that are smaller than that. The biggest prey items my ball pythons get are small rats (even my 3600+ gram females). They will eat more consistenly on smaller food items.
