They have a reputation for being a bit nippy, as well as unpredictable. However, that rep is gradually being put to bed as captive bred animals are readily available.
I've handled a handful, and only one juvenile struck.
My personal experience with Juice after 6 months in my care: quiet, wimpy, closed-mouth hissing occasionally when I first touch him. I let him know I'm not a threat and he's fine. He has never struck, never even gave me a real hiss. Never once have I had a problem getting him out of his enclosure and when hes out he's the epitome of a chill "lap snake".
I do know there are still some, just like any species, that are a bit more challenging, but that's to be expected.
