We bought a BP and need a set up!

(me thinking in my head) wtf don't you have a set up already! Here we go......

they show me the 10g corn snake kit.

Umm no!

Talk about AP (cause it is about the animal not the money). He grabs the 20 corn snake kit!

Ummm no!

Explain in glass tanks loss of humidity ect...still want a tank. Ok cool lets get the PROPER set up.

get two identical hides, blah de blah...thermostat..and here where I get stern. You absolutely must have a thermostat and all heat sources must be regulated. It's not an option. Let's go to Amazon, yep that and that too oh and a humidity gauge and thermostat. Yep ok checkout, great.

And when hen I say you must have your temps in this range, humidity in this range, or BP's will go off food. They are not a beginner snake and he says "your tag says beginner" I'm like ya...they lied. I'm telling you they are not.

Oh oh and after I tell him nothing sticky in the cage ever....he throws the stick on hygrometer, thermometer in his cart. I'm like NO, and I take it out. Unless you want to peel your snake off the sticky part like I had to do...and here is a vet bill I suggest you not.

They now have proper equipment! Lol I don't put up with bs...make it right or don't get a living creature!

And they bought it from a breeder not from me. Cause I would have said oh hells no!

You should come work at my towns petco, maybe ill actually purchase something from there again.

Was there a few days ago and in one single tiny cage was a half grown bo, and two hatchlings, both of which were wrapped around the wall heat guages about 6in off the floor of the enclosure, almost theur entire body lengths. How the hell...

We don't have a big box store in my neck of the wood but do have a local one that sells salt water fish and reptiles, they seem to be okay my only concern is they have the big boys a lot which just screams impulse buy, we don't have a little firecracker to tell them no like you good job you made a snakes living conditions liveable

I siliconed my gauges to the wall so the sticky can not come off. Nothing is hurting my babies! I just got in 3 BP's. Three! I did not order them! All cute and normal, no issues but still.....THREE! Now to fatten them up! Told all my peeps...no one touches them for a week. I'm not kidding...leave them alone! No one touches, holds, or even looks at them without my permission for a week or until they eat! I don't mess around.

Keep up the good work! I have shared my rantings with local big box stores. I started by playing customer and asking to see their snakes one at a time. When I was talking to the person who cares for them is either grateful for the information and has shown improvement in husbandry or they hate me. 3 out of the 4 stores have improved both husbandry and what they now require to be purchased to care for them. The 2 that are Petco stores now give a feeding chart and care sheet to their new herp owners. Most of this is thanks to Rainbow and this forum. She goes with me to the pet store from time to time. Love that girl and she is getting popular.
