I use similar setup except I use the larger HDX that is 24" deep I believe. I cut down the legs to get a tighter fit to the top of my tubs. You can put your Heat Tape right on the shelves. I used Aluminum tape from Home Depot to tape it down. You don't have to worry about melting the rack. As long as you maintain ambient temps in your snake room you shouldn't have any issues. My animals are all doing well with this setup.
