Ok, so, finals are over with Dec 18th, and then I drive home from UCD to LA (Sacramento area to Los Angeles), which is a good 6-7hr trek. Anywho, I'm home til January 6th, so I don't believe leaving my bp unattended for 2.5 weeks is a great idea. I was planning on basically just taking his tank as is, and putting it (carefully of course) in the back seat of my car (also having emptied the water of course). The same trip back under the same circumstances will need to be made Jan 6th. Do you all think this is the best way to go about doing this? I'll keep the ambient temp of the car up, but there won't be any lamps or pads heating the tank.

Put her in a pillowcase with some folded paper towels (in case she urinates). Then put her in a box packed with crumbled up newspaper as a cushion (actually pillow stuffing from a craft store works a thousand times better and is really cheap, but newspaper will do). This will provide her with a nice stable way to travel without sliding around inside a cage. If the temps along the way are going to get below 70, you might want to look into ordering some heat packs over the internet or look for some type of hand warmer from a sporting good store.
The heat packs or hand warmer can be wrapped in newspaper and kept at the bottom of the box underneath the cushioning.
I ship snakes all the time and the main thing is that they are stable and not being tossed or sliding around inside whatever you transport them in.

If i'm not pulling 1G corners on the I-5 with my Toyota Camry, will he be fine just chillin in the tank on the back seat? That sounds awfully extreme. I'm not shipping him anywhere.

In response, I outlined a much less stressful method of transporting a species of animal that can be very easily stressed.
Then, in your second post you said ...

I'm sure if you keep asking that sooner or later you'll get someone to agree with you, but that doesn't mean it's right. Will your snake be fine boucing around in a tank for X amount of hours? Maybe ... Will your snake be better off if you take a box, pillow case, and a newspaper and put together a secure container for moving her? Definitely.
In the end it's up to you to do what's right by your snake. If it were me, I'd give her the extra effort.

whew, lets play nice k?
epilover- one of my fav sayings is better safe then sorry.
It kinda like seatbelting him in ya know? If you get in a car wreck, he'll stand a much better chance with padding. I like to get a small tupperware, put some air holes in it and pad the edges with paper towel or tp... as long as there is somthing to keep him from banging into the sides...
good luck and have a nice trip!

Sterilites are not air tight so there's no need to make holes.
Hope this helps. :brushteeth:

hehehe, this whole thing is cracking me up, i don't really know why. I took Kitty on a 9 hour car ride useing his tank as his transport vehical, but he was iside the tank in a pillow case and his Glad ware hide. I Specify glad ware because I used the lid but there is an opening cut out ofr enrty/exit. The pillowcase was large enough that its extra cloth provided all needed padding and all the furnature had been cleared out so he was fine the whole way and things smelled familiar to him, which I imagine helps. Good luck
