Hello again! So in an effort to be the best conpanion to my snake I have heeded everyone's advice. As i write this I remeber I was going to post my "wow you were right!" post, that will come next.
The light hood I got with the tank did not really work for my needs so i have removed the heat bulbs and its strictly a uvb daytime light (no real heat output).
I have a ceramic dome with built in dimmer, using a 100w CHE. Additionally the dome runs through a thermostat.
Ignoring the thermostat for a second, I have been trying to dial in the dimmer so that the surface temperatures directly below the CHE stay around 90-95 degrees, without the dimmer the CHE creates a ridiculously hot surface.
Once im completely comfortable with the dimmer setting I will dial in the thermostat (its non digital) to find a happy day and night air temp setting.
What Im concerned with is although im close to that sweet spot I cant seem to lose these one couple hot spots, so I need to know if theyre really a risk.
Air temperature on the warm side, an inch above substrate, at the thermostat probe is about 82 degrees. (Probe is hidden from CHE by wood decoration)
Using an IR thermometer spot checking the warm side shows an range of 87-90 (besides hotspots)
Air temp on cool side is 77, IR Spot check reads 77-78
I put temps in pictures to better illustrate what im up against. I appreciate any and all info and advice!!!
