Anything I Have To Watch Out For In Ball Python Cage Decorations?
I'm getting my first snake maybe next week or later, but before I buy expensive pet-store cage decorations for him, I wanted to know if you can use regular home decor too?
Like fake plants, statues etc.
Is there anything that can be dangerous to them? I can't seem to find the information I'm trying to figure out.

Think of them like toddlers. If they can they will get cut by it, trapped by it or in it, they will be messy with and on or in it, is it toxic to them, they will escape through or out of it......
Yep. Just like small kids. You have to make intelligent decisions looking for all the hazards anything you put inside its enclosure. No. I am not paranoid at all. I am cautious.

As above really . Just needs common sense.
Most fake silk / plastic plants are fine but occasionally you get some that have built in rings to provide more strength BUT then the snake can get stuck and then drag it around until you can cut it off..

You want to watch out for anything he can get stuck on many of those decoration have holes they will squeeze in and won't be able to get out of.
Anything heavy that could fall and crush their head.
Anything they could get tangled in.
Anything sharp.
This is what can happen https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...ght=feel+moron

Thanks for all the answers so far, I will keep these things in mind.
Are there any kinds of materials that could be toxic or dangerous to them? So far I only know that cedar and pine are bad, but can't find more about that.

Re: Anything I Have To Watch Out For In Ball Python Cage Decorations?
All good info above. Also people usually want a cool decorative looking Hide from pets stores.. They are not good and have sharp pieces under them. Do yourself a favor and check out Reptile Basics Online. They sell hides that we all use. They R
are safe, don't crack and aren't sharp at all. This is what they really need. Buy 2 and they will be able to choose Temp and not because they like one style more than another style hide.
Snakes will get into anything so make sure if your thinking they cant get to something or get out you take the extra precautions anyway. Especially when it comes to fastening down screenes lids or doors on your enclosure. Too many sad stories of escapes etc....

Basically everything above, it's all good advice.
Also, no tape or any other adhesive products like it. Very dangerous.
Basically, if they can find it, they will eventually. Good rule of thumb: if you have ANY doubt as to whether or not it's safe don't put it in the enclosure.
There are plenty of horror stories out there. If you have any questions or doubts ask before you use it and we'll make sure you don't become one of them.

Avoid aquarium décor as a lot of it has holes to get a snake get stuck inside of it.
You can buy fake plants at a craft store like Michaels for half the price of at a pet store, and many of the SKU's will be the same. Just ensure there are no loops that can snare your snake, or sharp edges/wire points sticking out that can cut it. Go for plastic décor, it cleans easily.
RBI-style smooth hides. They don't look "natural" but they are safe.

Really look out for anything that can arm it. Too hot of a hot spot can burn your little buddy, so make sure to watch out for temperatures on that. The fake plants that are connected by plastic chains are a big no go. Snakes can get stuck in it and that can wound your snake. Make sure that the enclosure you use has a secure way to make sure your snake can't escape so that it can stay in the safe spot too. Locks are really really useful.
